Pontiac

The 1972 YH-code 455-cu.in. engine was built and installed prior to the seller buying the car, so internal details and specifications are scant. He did relay that “455” is cast into the sides of the block, the cylinder heads appear to be Pontiac #62s from the late 1960s. A Holley four-barrel carburetor is atop an aftermarket aluminum intake manifold, and headers feed into true dual exhausts, sans catalytic converters. It has a TH350 transmission, and it has been bored 30 over with 375 hp. For cold starting he says, “pump pedal twice and it starts right up.” The engine, “idles well despite its wicked cam, there are no leaks, and the transmission shifts smoothly.” A standard Safe-T-Track rear axle remains, but the seller is unsure of the gear ratio.

This is a PHS documented, #s matching, factory Lucerne blue T/A. California car with original metal. Professionally restored by T/A experts- Restore a Muscle Car. Thos one is exceptional. Exceptionally clean original California body. Original uncut body panels. The car is straight everywhere, smooth everywhere including along the bottom. It still has factory pinch welds around the wheel well lips. I did not see a crack or bubble. The rubber bumper, shaker hood scoop and spoilers are in excellent condition. They were only available white or blue, this is the more desirable code 26 Lucerne blue. The metal flake was laid out evenly and the clear coat was polished to a smooth glossy finish. The center stripes were properly installed. Jambs are painted slick, the door lip is clean. Weatherstrips and window seals were replaced. The gl* is crystal clear. The grills and headlight bezels are excellent. In back the tail lights, bumper and emblems look new. The Rally ll wheels look great, BFG tires look like new. It's a deluxe interior. Upholstery, door panels, carpet, headliner were replaced. I'm looking at a new formula cushion grip steering wheel, the machine turned instrument panel is excellent and it has the rally gauges. It has an AM-FM radio. The center console and shifter bezel look new. All the plastic- kick panels, rear side panels seat backs are excellent. It has a factory rear defogger. Everything looks real clean and fits nice.

The factory-correct gold interior is a great 1960s color. It looks especially nice on this one, because it has the kind of tone that almost looks like you mixed the exterior paint and roof colors together. There's plenty of correct and vintage style that makes this appealing. The woodgrain paneling on the center console and dash to give you an upscale feeling. Part of a true driver-oriented package that includes front bucket seats. A center console, and the cool Hurst ''His and Hers'' dual-gate shifter. There are even provisions for desirable features like a factory tach and air conditioning (they will need servicing to function again.) The trunk has a clean and complete look, but that's not the most impressive part. What you'll really be showing off is the signature of Jim Wangers. If you know 1968 Pontiac GTO, then we don't have to tell you about how this marketing ace was instrumental in letting the world know that the GTO was here and the muscle car era had begun.
